After James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads for leading the new DC. It became clear that the movies released in the past and the movies which are going to release in the DCEU are going to be irrelevant to the new DC being formed by James Gunn and Peter Safran and we are going to get so many cancelled DCEU movies.
Here are all the movies that were planned as a part of DCEU but were cancelled.
The Batman Ben Affleck Movie
At the 2016 Comic-Con, it was announced that Ben Affleck is going to direct, co-produce, write and act in The Batman. But later Ben Affleck stepped down as the Director of the movie but still was going to act as Batman with Matt Reeves as the director.
In Ben Affleck’s version Death Stroke was going to play the antagonist. The plot was that he tries to make Batman vulnerable by arranging a breakout at Arkham. And later on, at some point, Batgirl was going to appear in the movie helping Batman.
But under Matt Reeves, the direction of the movie changed towards a young batman, who is still learning to be batman and is more inexperienced. With this Ben Affleck left the project and then was replaced by Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part 2 & 3
In October 2014 it was announced that Zack Snyder will be directing parts 2 & 3 of the justice league after Joss Wheadon’s Justice League part 1.
But after releasing part 1, they realized it might be a bad idea to go for parts 2 & 3. Hence the project was dropped. But after the failure of Part 1 by Joss Wheadon, fans started demanding The Snyder Cut for part 1 and after 3 years in 2020, it was released. The Snyder Cut received applause from fans but now it was too late to green-lit parts 2 & 3.
Part 3 was going to feature a time-traveling Flash from the future to prevent Superman’s fall into the darkness by traveling back to the events of Part 2 where it was revealed that Louis Lane is pregnant and the father of the child is Bruce Wayne.
Man Of Steel 2 and Black Adam v/s Superman
After appearing in the post-credit scene of Black Adam, everyone was sure that Man Of Steel 2 is going to happen and Henry Cavill won’t be out of Superman’s costume. After the release of Black Adam, Henry Cavill also addressed that he will be returning as Superman in his Instagram post.
But after some time, James Gunn declared on his Twitter handle that Henry Cavill finally won’t be returning as Superman, as they are planning to show a younger version of Superman in the new Superman Franchise. Respecting the decisions of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Henry Cavill also posted on his Instagram and said that he will be saying goodbye to superman.
Gotham City Siren
A film based on Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Cat woman was announced and was under development in December 2016. This movie was directed and co-produced by David Ayer.
This film was also going to have Jared Leto as the Joker in it.
The film’s development was later on postponed and Birds of Prey was taken as a priority. In 2022, Margot Robbie stated that there were chances that she could appear in the coming franchise movies and we would get to see a romantic angle between Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.
New Gods
In March 2018 it was announced that Ava DuVernay was going to direct a movie about New Gods. The main antagonist of this film was planned to be Darkseid. And going against Darkseid, The Female Furies were going to appear in the movie.
But the project was later dropped in April 2021.
Harley Quinn and The Joker Movie
In July 2017, a film was announced to be under development featuring Harley Quinn and Joker, which was scheduled after The Suicide Squad movie.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa were going to be the writers, directors, and producers for this film.
Later on, this project was dropped in February 2019.
Joker
In June 2018, it was announced that a movie featuring Joker played by Jared Leto is under development. Jared Leto was going to be the executive producer and was also going to be involved in the film’s production as well as playing the part of the joker.
The film was later in 2019 added to our list of cancelled DCEU movies.
Nightwing
A film with Nightwing in lead was under production and was announced in February 2018. Chris Mckay and Bill Dubuque were hired as directors and screenwriters.
In 2021, they stated that for now DC is having other priority projects than Nightwing but they are still motivated to make this movie. They also said that if necessary then they can remove the connections of Nightwing from DCEU continuity.
All other movies that were going to happen but now cannot as the DC is going through a hard reset are Deathstroke, Deadshot, Green Lantern Corps, Batman Beyond starring Michael Keaton, Supergirl, Batgirl, Black Adam2, Wonder Woman 3.
